It would be quite an understatement to say that the world is facing a hard time. However, things seem to finally be taking a positive turn. On March 11, Joe Biden made history by signing his $1.9 trillion stimulus plan for Covid-19 relief. The bill has been passed in hopes to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on Americans. Biden says the legislation is essential for “rebuilding the backbone of this country.” So, where exactly is the $1.9 trillion going?
The Covid-19 relief package plans on accomplishing many things. It hopes to aid the unemployed, small businesses, and anyone affected roughly by the pandemic. One of the main priorities of this bill is reopening schools. Schools will receive $130 billion in funding to help them reopen. Additionally, $14 billion will go towards researching and strengthening the vaccine. The bill also provides $1,400 stimulus checks that will be given to over 85% of people in this country. These stimulus checks are fundamental for helping the lower class. It will provide housing assistance for 12 million Americans struggling to pay rent because of the pandemic. On another note, the Covid-19 relief package is also establishing an ambitious program to cut childhood poverty in half.
The bill might be able to help WCTA students come back to school full time and leave many people financially reassured. Freshman Sabdy Cordon said, “I think this bill will be significant for rebuilding the economy among many other things”. Just like Cordon, Biden’s stimulus plan for Covid relief is facing lots of attention and positive expectations. This is no surprise, since it’s a progressive response towards Americans in need. Biden’s stimulus plan seems to be one step closer to getting things back to normal.
