A "Million Reasons" to Listen to Joanne

The “Glam Rocker” is back, with new, different music. Lady Gaga, whose birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, has released her long awaited senior solo album, Joanne.

Joanne, consisting of fourteen new and original songs, charted on the #1 spot on itunes, and has so far fought to keep it. The world’s spotlights have been placed on the tracks, “Perfect Illusion” (the album’s first single) and “Million Reasons”. “Perfect Illusion” has had the most popularity, since the release of its music video early October, and the live performance by Gaga on a segment of The Late Late Show, called Carpool Karaoke.

It is no surprise that Germanotta has had such a success with this new album; the new, unique types of music that she is bringing into the world, no matter how unlike her old style, is full of catchy lyrics and beats that will get stuck in the listener's head- in the good way. It seems that no matter how much Gaga’s music evolves, she always keeps that flair of passion and alluring art.

So far there have been many different critiques of the album, most of which agree that Germanotta has put on a new face, one not covered with high production and questionable fashion, but one with a deeper, slower musical appeal. Many people have given Joanne a lot of praise, such as when the Rolling Stone reporter Rob Sheffield wrote, “Joanne is Lady Gaga's best album in five years,”

However there can never be praise without criticism. One of her critics include Washington Post Reporter, Chris Richards, who wrote, “After a week of listening to it, Lady Gaga’s “Joanne” still sounds like a medium-size bowl of who cares.”

He also went to later on criticise her past fashion and performance choices when he said, “What if all these fantastic characters that Gaga has played — meat-frock maven, alien pod hatchling, estranged David Bowie cousin — were mere disguises for a careerist with no greater goal than her own success? Here’s the freaky truth: These questions probably wouldn’t matter if she’d given us something good to sing along to.”

Gaga has kept a high profile in the entertainment industry for the past few years, with her album “Artpop” from 2013, and her role in the show American Horror Story: Hotel.

After so much success and popularity, it’s exciting to see what the Glam Rocker does next.
