Las Vegas Aviators
As time passes by, Las Vegas is getting more and more involved with sports. The Las Vegas Aviators is a Minor League Baseball Team in the Pacific Coast League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
The Las Vegas Aviators was founded in 1983, and it was known as the Las Vegas Stars until 2000. Then in 2001, the name of the team was changed to Las Vegas 51s until 2018. Then this year, it was changed to Las Vegas Aviators.
As the season will start, the Las Vegas Aviators will be playing at their future home, which is the Las Vegas Ballpark stadium. The stadium that is being built in Summerlin, Nevada is still under construction and it will open on April 9, 2019, which is the first home game.
Now that the stadium is nearby WCTA, students will be able to be more involved and will be able to go attend the home games. Freshman Wendy Fang comments, “I’ve never been to a baseball game and now that there’s a stadium here in Summerlin, I’m planning on watching at least some of the home games.”
As the new year starts, more minor league teams here in Las Vegas are being more noticed than in the past. Freshman Katherine Yeh says, “I knew we had a minor league baseball team, but I never really focused on them that much. When I saw the stadium that was being built, that was when I actually acknowledged the team.”
When the season starts, the team hopes that the Las Vegas community will support them and their journey.
