Kicking Off A New Season
All time professional, NHL alumni and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky once said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t make.” It’s September, meaning some sports are returning to season and coming to your television, but to others means another gritty, and physical season of players competing to be the best.
Whether it’s hockey, basketball, football, or baseball, sports is more than a game, to some it's a passion, daresay a lifestyle. Many of the athletes here at WCTA play for either their zone school or a club team. Some athletes have certain goals or different things they want to achieve at the end of the season.
“I want to be able to play on the field more, well more court time” said Sophomore Halsey Hughes, who plays volleyball for Palo Verde. All these unique and incredible athletes may play at different schools, but most have one goal, to do the best they possibly can and win. Some even play to set them up for the future, whether it be to get scholarships or go pro in the big leagues. “I don’t really see myself going somewhere with my sport. I just play for enjoyment and as a hobby”, Sophomore Wyvonnie Fletcher explained.
Although it is quite unfortunate that WCTA does not personally have their own sports teams, it’s good students are out there staying active and playing. Whether you play for fun or to go pro, every athlete has room for improvement and has a new season to look forward to.
The new sports season is coming, are you prepared?
