Tighten your seatbelts and get ready for a rollercoaster of awesomeness because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings is now screening in theaters.

Shang-Chi is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) newest member of the Avengers, and is the first superhero in the MCU of Asian descent. The movie is packed with action intertwined with representing Asian culture, dragging the attention of not only Asian-Americans, but Asians all over the world.

Shang-Chi had been a highly anticipated film for quite some time when it was first announced. However, only a few have heard of this superhero beforehand. “I haven’t even heard of Shang-Chi until the trailers were released,” said Sophomore Nima Motamedi.

Despite the lack of knowledge about this superhero, many were excited to view the Asian representation in this movie. And with the intense and well choreographed fight scenes, what’s not to love?

“I think seeing something new with an Asian protagonist, people will likely be more interested in watching it, and it’ll likely do well in the box office.” said Sophomore Pierce Reyes.

This prediction served to be relatively accurate as only after three days of the film’s release, it racked up to 71 million dollars.

Many believe this film has broken barriers for Asian Americans.

“The sun rose today to a world where Asian superheroes exist as the leads of their story; that is the gift that Marvel Studios have bestowed upon all of us, across all communities, everywhere,” said actor Simu Liu, who plays the role of Shang-Chi.

With the recent release of the film, the Asian community, especially the younger generation, felt a sense of empowerment and confidence.

With the amount of hype Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings has built up, tickets and seating at movie theaters are bound to sell out quickly. Go to your local cinemas now and watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings soon before it’s too late!
